And my favorite, to get away from the city and have a hike and picnic along the Appian Way. Once you get past the catacombs the original ancient roadbed goes on for miles, surrounded by ruins and fields covered with grass and flowers. Of course one of the best things in Rome is to just wander around the back streets, where you're definitely going to stumble upon something beautiful and interesting that you'll remember.
