Where’s a romantic spot to propose in Rome?
This is a surprisingly common question. Not so surprising, perhaps, considering that, to many people and travelers, Rome is the most romantic city in the world.

Frankly, just about any spot in Rome is at least reasonably romantic. Pick a sidewalk table anywhere in the city, order two cappuccinos and make your offer!

The first choice would be a moonlit night overlooking the Roman Forum from the back of the Campidoglio. The ruins have an aura about them at all times, but especially at night. The better spot is to the right of the Palazzo Senatorio, though the area to the left is nice as well. Second choice would have to be atop the Palatine Hill, inside the Roman Forum and Palatine. You can stand at the wall of the building in the Farnese Gardens with a framed view of the Forum below. Alternatively, there’s a corner to the left, on the northwest edge of the Palatine with an even better, unframed, view.

Dome of St. Peter’s
The view of the city from atop the dome of St. Peter’s is excellent. Go to the roof, then climb to the inside of the dome, then up the winding stairs inside the covering of the dome to the lantern atop the church. An energetic climb, the proposal will take away any thought of aching muscles and it’ll be a wedding proposal to remember for sure.

Belvedere in the Pincio
Late afternoon or early morning with the sun low at the Belvedere in the Pincio would be fine as well. A park setting, you have an elevated overview of the Rennaissance quarter of the city looking all the way to the dome of St. Peter’s to the west. The Belvedere is a few hundred yards past the Trinità dei Monti atop the Spanish Steps, inside the park.

Fontana de Trevi
Fontana de Trevi is claimed to be the most romantic and beautiful place in Rome and one of the monuments which people like to visit a lot. Statues, white marble and the sound of the water is the perfect set for your propose. Probably the best time to do so is late night, at 02:00 or so, when there is not too many people and you can enjoy the monument and the moment in its complete majesty; just imagine, the night, the illuminated fountain and the face of your love one illuminated due to your propose… simply fantastic. You both can always throw a coin into the fountain and make a wish for your happiness.

Via Sacra
Via Sacra could also be a perfect set for your proposal; walking along this stone road with thick trees around, you could have a great calm night; you would be almost alone with your partner as you would hardly meet someone in the path. You both could walk to Coliseum and then to Palatinum Hill on a summer night; you could listen to the desired ”yes” for your love statement and proposal in any step of the strolling up or you could plan it to have the coliseum as background.

Tiber River Cruise
A Tiber River Cruise could be a good place for any event, including a proposal. You could plan a nice trip along the river, enjoying really pleasant music, and with the beautiful historic jewels of the city all around you and your partner. Proposing having a fancy romantic dinner, tasting an excellent Italian sparkling wine, with your other half on the Tiber River waters will be a memory that you both will want to treasure forever, although walking along the riversides is so romantic either.

Trastéver
Trastéver is claimed to be the most romantic neighborhood in Rome, it is a very pacific place. It has paved streets and most of them are walkways, so people can enjoy the place without worried about the cars crossing. You just have to arrive to the neighborhood at sunset, walk around and the place will involve you in such a nice environment that you will lost the sense of time enjoying with your love one. Houses, palaces, streets and lightning collude to create the perfect environment for a great proposal. You also can plan to spend a whole weekend here making it the most romantic holiday in Rome before the proposal.

Romance is where you find it, and in Rome, with a loved one, romance is everywhere.
